2007 Volkswagen Space Up! Concept

Few weeks ago the new Volkswagen Up was performed as a concept car at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The car meant for families which like to spend their free time together. Now, with the debut of the Space Up! There seems little doubt these cars – or something very like them – will become production realities.

The Space Up takes its inspiration from its older sibling. The newcomer shares the lines of the Up and designed by VW Group’s chief designer Walter de Silva. To improve interior space has been extended the wheelbase to 104.3 inches. The overall length grows by 9 inches and the height by 1.6 inches. Despite these gains, the Space Up! still 5.9 inches shorter than the current smallest VW, the Fox, yet retains its status as a four-seater. Three of the seats can either be folded or removed completely to allow for up to 35.5 cubic feet of luggage space. Access to the cargo area is via side-hinged glass panels, which open in the same way as the doors on the back of the MINI Clubman.

The Space Up has a small features compartment at the rear for an engine – be it gas, diesel, or electric. Above this is a luggage area and there’s more stowage space under the hood. To allow awkward loads, it can be extended, through a removable panel in the passenger footwell.
