BMW’s next-generation Z4 sports car has been photographed quite often in various stages of its development. These latest shots show a test car caught in the streets of Munich.
The Z4 will replace the current model that has been on the market since 2003, and it will be about the same size. The most significant feature on the new car is that BMW will exchange the canvas top for a retractable steel roof, like that on the Mercedes SLK.The new Z4 is expected to offer a choice of more powerful engines. Riding on the latest 3-Series chassis, it may use the same range of four- and six-cylinder engines, and for the first time there is talk of additional diesel engines, too. The top of the line version will be the Z4 M.

While the current Z4 is being built in BMW’s plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina, the new Z4 will be built in Regensburg, Germany, with production starting in late 2009.
