Bill Auberlen and Joey Hand were named by Bmw of North America, LLC as the first two drivers of the latest M3s for Bmw Rahal Letterman Racing Team in the 2009 American Le Mans Series.

In selecting Auberlen and Hand, Bmw of North America has actually chosen two of the most thriving BMW drivers in the world and two of the most well-known names to M3 racing fans here in North America.

Auberlen, who is 40, hails from Redondo Beach, CA originally drove for Bmwof North America beginning in 1996 when he joined the preceding M3 racing program, which was then in its second year of competition.

He would go on to become the most successful driver for Bmw, garnering driver titles in both 1997 and 2004.

When he takes the green flag at Sebring International Raceway for the 57th annual 12 Hours of Sebring on March 21, Auberlen will have the merit of having raced all of the Bmw M3 generations promoted by Bmw of North America.

Hand, younger at 29, comes from Sacramento, CA joined the preceding M3 racing program in 2004 and competed through the 2006 season.

Coming from a setting in open wheel racing, Hand rapidly got used to the M3 and endurance racing. He received five wins and 13 podium finishes for BMW of North America in a total of three seasons, lots of those races with Auberlen as partner.
