Hyundai expects strong 2008 result to continue

Hyundai New Zealand chief executive, Philip Eustace, is bullish about the Korean make’s prospects in 2009.

His optimism follows what he says is Hyundai’s “positive sales growth” in 2008, “a tough year for the car industry.”

Hyundai sold 4724 vehicles in New Zealand last year, a 5.49 percent rise in an overall new car market that fell by 5.2 percent.

Eustace says recently launched models like the i30 hatchback (574 sold) and the H-1 Van were key models in the strong showing. Globally, Hyundai sales rose 6.9 percent in 2008.

Describing the 2008 results as “wonderful but not surprising news,” Eustace says Hyundai expects to see “similar results again in 2009 as we introduce new models such as the i30 Wagon and i20 to the New Zealand line-up.” source
