The SEAT Ibiza as “Most Wanted Vehicle of the Year” in Macedonia

MARTORELL, SPAIN – Május 26, 2009: The SEAT Ibiza has been voted “Most Wanted Vehicle of 2009” in Macedonia by spectators of the “Auto Magazine” television programme. This is the ninth award given to the Spanish brand’s car since its launch midway through last year, a significant fact that proves the new Ibiza’s enormous popularity among the public and the media.

New Toyota Prius Harvests the Rewards of Plant-Based Plastics

EPSOM, UNITED KINGDOM – May 26, 2009: When it comes to environmental performance, new Prius’s achievements are not just about the fuel economy and clean running offered by its Toyota Hybrid Drive full hybrid powertrain. Toyota’s determination to reduce emissions and promote sustainability prompted it to research and develop the world’s first injection moulded material to be derived from plant matter.

This new Ecological Plastic is used throughout new Prius, and will be featured widely in Toyota’s new model ranges in the future. In the short term, Toyota’s aim is for Ecological Plastic to be used for up to 60 per cent of a car’s interior components.

Opel

Magna bidding for Opel

magna260509Canadian automotive giant Magna International has confirmed that it has bid for Opel.

Together with Russian bank Sberbank, the offer contemplates a total investment of 700 million euros, a portion of which would be guaranteed by the German government.

Under the offer, the proposed equity interests in Opel would be: General Motors – 35%; Sberbank – 35%; Magna – 20%; and Opel employees – 10%.

General Motors and the German government are reviewing and considering offers submitted this week and will determine the next steps in the sale process.

Mercedes-Benz working on the next CLK for 2011

Even though the 2010 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe replaced the CLK nameplate, a successor to the model based on the new Mercedes-Benz C-Class could be in the works for 2011.

According to sources of a French car magazine, the next CLK will fill the gap between the 2010 E-Class Coupe (which is already built on the C-Class platform but is a little larger than the old CLK) and the CLC Coupe.

The MINI United Festival – Celebrating MINI’s 50th Anniversary

The third edition of what has already become the legendary MINI United Festival was held this year from 22nd – 24th May 2009 in glorious sunshine at the Formula One track in Silverstone, England.

25,000 fans from more than 40 countries made the pilgrimage to the world’s premier gathering of its kind. They arrived in over 10,000 MINI models, most of them lovingly individualised. Numerous German fan clubs made their way to the venue, mostly setting out by car on the long journey to the UK. Even for participants from as far afield as Russia, the USA and South Africa, no effort or cost was too great to ensure they could pay personal tribute to the British classic on its 50th birthday. Likewise determined not to miss out on this winning mix of racing action, music festival and lifestyle spectacular were a whole raft of celebrities.
