Hyundai’s small car achieves five-star rating

The Hyundai i20 has gained the maximum five-star safety rating from Euro NCAP.

The European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP) has been updated with tougher testing and require vehicles to be equipped with the most advanced safety technologies available.

Raising the benchmark for the small car class, the Hyundai i20 five-door model scored well in all four categories assessed – adult occupancy, child protection, pedestrian protection and safety assist.

The i20 achieved 88% in the adult occupant protection tests, and six out of seven points in the safety assist category, receiving top marks for its seatbelt reminder and Electronic Stability Control (ESC).

“The i20’s five-star rating is recognition of Hyundai Motor Company’s commitment to providing our customers with world class cars and the highest level of safety.” said Philip Eustace, Executive Director Hyundai Motors New Zealand.

The Hyundai i20’s standard active and passive safety equipment includes six airbags, active head-restraints, front seatbelt pretensioners, anti-lock brakes, Electronic Stability Control, and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution.

The i20 is being assessed for sale in New Zealand with no confirmed launch date as yet.
