Honda’s ASIMO robot is heading for the Youth Engineering Summit (YES) in Tyne and Wear in June to meet over 7,000 engineers of the future.
YES is an educational event featuring presentations, interviews, demonstrations and videos about the world of engineering, to show the range of career options available in this diverse field.
The event is organised by One North East and is aimed at school children aged between 12 to 14 years old.
ASIMO, which stands for Advanced Step in Innovative Mobility, is the culmination of over two decades of humanoid robotics research and development.
It is designed to help people and will someday assist the elderly and disabled in their homes.
It is hoped that ASIMO will inspire children to create engineering innovations of the future.
Honda is bringing along a host of examples of its engineering expertise, including a Fireblade superbike fresh from the Isle of Man TT, the Team Dynamics British Touring Car Civic and a new Honda Insight hybrid vehicle.
Adrian Gorst, Chief Mechanic from the HM Plant Honda Superbike team is looking forward to attending the event.
He said, “It’s brilliant that youngsters from across the North East have the opportunity to come along to the show, I’m sure that the wide variety of innovative technology at the event will stimulate inquiring minds.”
Honda has supported the YES event since 2005, and each year the event has grown in popularity; last year over 4,000 youths attended the event.
YES will be held at the Rainton Meadows Arena, in Tyne and Wear from 23 to 25 June.
