Volkswagen clean-diesels account for 26% of June sales

Volkswagen of America today reported June 2009 sales of 19,027 units, an 18 percent decline over June 2008 sales. Volkswagen said that its clean diesel models posted their best sales month since their launch with a total of 5,072 units sold, or 26 percent of total sales.

The Jetta SportWagen posted its best sales month ever with 1,982 units. Clean diesel sales accounted for 81 percent of Sportwagen sales, 40 percent of Jetta sedan sales and 29 percent of Touareg sales.

Speed limit display undergoes New Zealand testing

BMW says its innovative speed limit display, which can read speed limit signposts and variable speed limit signs and show the limit in the instrument cluster, is one step closer to New Zealand introduction.

Engineers from the Bavarian manufacturer will visit New Zealand in the next two months to carry out local testing of the speed limit function. They will cover approximately 5000 kilometres over a mix of urban, suburban and rural roads.

The new BMW X1 is entering the New Zealand market with a choice of two four-cylinder diesel engines.

The BMW X1 xDrive23d comes with a 150 kW/204 hp diesel featuring BMW TwinPower Turbo and common-rail fuel injection.

The diesel engines in the BMW X1 xDrive20d delivering 130 kW/177 hp, also come with common-rail fuel injection as well as a turbocharger with variable intake geometry.
