Shelby Autos changes name to Shelby American

In a nod to its past, Shelby Automobiles says it is undergoing a name change to the historic Shelby American name, which harks back to 1962 when Carroll Shelby founded the outfit to produce sports and muscle cars.
“Enthusiasts have asked us many times to bring back the Shelby American name over the past several years,” said Carroll Shelby in a prepared statement released to the media. “Using the Shelby American name will better connect our current vehicles to our heritage of building great cars like the G.T.350 and Cobra.”
Other than the name change for the automobile-producing division, business will remain as usual for the company, which continues to act as a builder of high-performance, factory-supported Mustangs.
“We’re still building genuine Shelby Cobras and have been involved in some of the most exciting Ford Mustangs ever to wear a Shelby badge,” said Amy Boylan, president of the company, in the same release.
