Honda Motor Co., Ltd. Reports Consolidated Financial Results For The Fiscal Second Quarter Ended September 30, 2010

Honda Motor Co., Ltd. today announced its consolidated financial results for the fiscal second quarter ended September 30, 2010.

Second Quarter Results

Honda’s consolidated net income attributable to Honda Motor Co., Ltd. for the fiscal second quarter ended September 30, 2010 totaled JPY 135.9 billion (USD 1,622 million), an increase of JPY 81.8 billion from the same period in 2009. Basic net income attributable to Honda Motor Co., Ltd. per common share for the quarter amounted to JPY 75.24 (USD 0.90), an increase of JPY 45.46 from JPY 29.78 for the corresponding period last year. One Honda American Depository Share represents one common share.

Hennessey’s Venom GT is a Corvette-Powered Elise with 1,200HP

Some say you can’t make a Lotus any better. Well, maybe they haven’t head of Hennessey and its SEMA Show-bound Venom GT. The American firm’s new toy is based on the Lotus Elise and, in its flagship version, comes equipped with an out-of-this-world 1,200 hp (895 kW) twin turbocharged V8 engine sourced from the Corvette. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox.

The V8-powered sports car also gets race-spec disc brakes sourced from Brembo with 15.2-inch diameter carbon-ceramic rotors and 6-piston aluminum calipers.

Illustrated: Lightweight, high performance Lamborghini LP570-4 Performante Spyder

Next year, Lamborghini will debut a high performance version of its LP570-4 Superleggera hardtop, signaled in part by the outrageously lightweight Sesto Elemento concept car that debuted recently at the Paris Motor Show.

Lamborghini has put substantial effort into reducing the weight of its vehicles, both to improve their performance and to help them qualify for increasingly stringent emissions and fuel consumption rules in North America, Asia and Europe.

J.D. Power & Associates: Electric cars are currently more hope than reality

Though there is much hype around the electric car evolution, J.D. Power & Associates says that we shouldn’t count gasoline down and out just yet. A new report by Power says that by 2020, the vast majority of cars sold around the world will run on gasoline, not electricity. The report, entitled “Drive Green 2020: More Hope Than Reality.” predicts that just 7.3% of passenger vehicles sold around the world in ten years will be hybrids or plug-ins.
