This is General Motors’ brand new Opel Astra GTC revealed more than two months ahead of its world premiere at the 64th International Motor Show in Frankfurt, Germany, in mid-September. The newest member of Opel’s ever-growing Astra family will go on sale across Europe including the United Kingdom where it will be available as a Vauxhall later this year. Recent reports also suggest it may come to the States under the Buick brand.

Sales of the 2012 Volkswagen Beetle start in October and prices will start at $19,765 including a $770 destination charge for the base model.

The 2012 Volkswagen Beetle base model is powered by a 2.4L 5-cylinder engine that produces 170-hp and a peak torque of 177 lb-ft. Mated to a 5-speed manual, fuel-economy comes in at 22/31 mpg (city/highway) and 22/29 mpg when mated to a 6-speed automatic.

Kia said last week that it will invest $100 million to increase production capacity at its assembly plant in West Point, Ga. The investment will increase the plant’s production capacity from the current 300,000 units to 360,000 units a year.

The investment comes as Kia prepares to add a third shift at the plant to build the Kia Optima starting this September. The plant already builds the Kia Sorento and the Hyundai Santa Fe, both which share the platform with the Optima. The Sorento is Kia’s best-selling model with January through May sales of 51,765, up 23 percent.

Aston Martin’s lineup has ballooned in recent years to now include 14 different models, but that product expansion doesn’t look to be over just yet. The British automaker is said to be putting the final touches on an even higher performing version of the Rapide sedan.
Although the Rapide’s 470 horsepower 6.0L V12 never left us wanting for power, Aston Martin is now behind the power curve in the luxury sedan segment, trailing rivals like the 518 horsepower Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG and the 550 horsepower Porsche Panamera Turbo S. As such, the Rapide is reportedly in line for a power bump for the 2012 model year.

Citroën has announced plans to offer a special edition DS3 Grey Matter.

On the styling front, the car is distinguished by a matte grey exterior with chrome accents on the mirrors, doors and tailgate. Elsewhere, there’s a contrasting roof (in black or white) and color-matching 17-inch alloy wheels.

Interior changes are minor but include Mistral leather upholstery and the MyWay Select Comfort package which features automatic climate control, GPS navigation and a premium audio system.
