Alfa Romeo GT out of production; no successor planned

We’ve all recently had the pleasure to check out the Japan only GT special edition, the Quadrifoglio d’Oro. It was unveiled at the end of July and we had thought it was the mark of many good things to come for Alfa Romeo. Well, we were partly right. We still think great things will be coming out of Alfa Romeo, such as their new Alfa Romeo 8C and their upgraded 159 sedan and station wagon versions, but what won’t be part of Alfa Romeo’s future is the GT. Apparently, the Quadrifoglio d’Oro will be the last Alfa Romeo GT ever built. Following the success of its recent Melbourne auction, where cars offered with no reserve contributed to an impressive clearance rate of more than 87 per cent, Shannons is offering some very special sports sedans with no reserve prices at its upcoming Sydney Autumn Auction on Monday May 3.

Leader of the pack is one of the all time sedan classics: a sublime, silver 1971 Mercedes-Benz 300SEL 6.3 litre saloon – the predecessor to the latest C63, but even more exciting to enthusiasts when it was introduced in 1968.

We’re slowly getting more information on Fiat Group’s role here in the United States as Sergio Marchionne reveals his 5-year business plan for the Italian automaker today in Turin, Italy.
