2010 Beijing: BMW Concept Gran Coupe hints at Mercedes CLS, Audi A7 rival

About a month ago, a bunch of BMW trademark filings hit the web and something called “Gran Coupe” was one of them – well, here it is. Think of this as a closer to production version of the 2007 Concept CS ready to take on the Mercedes-Benz CLS and A7.

BMW calls this a BMW Concept Gran Coupe, ”a 4-door vehicle which combines the exclusivity of a Gran Turismo with the fascination of a high-performance sports car.”

BMW Group Australia Appoints New Head of Corporate Communications

BMW Group Australia has appointed Piers Scott to the position of PR & Corporate Communications Manager, effective mid May.

Scott, 33, was previously the Corporate Communications Manager for BMW Group New Zealand and will relocate with his family to Melbourne to take up the new position.

With PR experience spanning more than 10 years, both as a consultant and in-house corporate communications manager, not only does Scott bring with him a vast knowledge of the automotive industry, he also arrives with experience within the finance, mining and public sectors.

Vorsteiner GTRS3: Bad Boy Widebody BMW M3 Coupe

The Vorsteiner GTRS3 is what happens when you put a lot of carbon fiber, an M3 and some Porsche tail badges in a blender with a dollop of Venom’s symbiote as your solvent. Result: a stealthy post-apocalyptic performance milkshake on wheels.

Now point your finger at the picture. Just about everything other than the doors and roof has been replaced with a wide-body version of itself in carbon fiber (front fenders, skirts, rear fender extensions, etc.).

BMW Group Sales Growth 13.8% 1Q 2010

The BMW Group increased sales by 13.8% percent in the first quarter: A total of 315,614 (prev. yr. 277,264) BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce brand automobiles were delivered to customers worldwide.

The company’s sales volumes rose 12.1% in March to reach a total of 141,701 (prev. yr. 126,381) vehicles. All three brands made strong gains: Sales of BMW brand vehicles climbed 12.7% to 117,696 (prev. yr. 104,423) units in the month under review. MINI delivered 23,880 vehicles in March (prev. yr. 21,888 / +9.1%), while Rolls-Royce automobiles were presented to 125 customers (prev. yr. 70 /+78.6%) last month.
