Lamborghini might jump into four-door fray

Is Lamborghini preparing a four-door-fighter to take on the Porsche Panamera and the Aston Martin Rapide–perhaps along the lines of the Estoque? Maybe.

Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann again raised that possibility recently.

“A third model would fit Lamborghini very well,” Winkelmann, 45, told Bloomberg. “A four-door car would be a very feasible approach.”

Video: Underground Racing twin-turbo Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera hits 250.1 mph

There are a select few players in the market with production vehicles that hit a top speed higher than 250 mph; however, Lamborghini and Ferrari aren’t one of them. As consumer behavior takes an expected twist towards fuel-efficiency (and as governments set higher fuel-economy regulations), supercar manufacturers have vowed to offer more economical sports cars.

Lamborghini Murciélago LP 670-4 SuperVeloce China Special Debuts at Beijing Show

Much like Ferrari’s 599, or more recently Bentley’s Continental range, Lamborghini has decided to offer a limited edition model for the Chinese market. It’s called the Murciélago LP 670-4 SuperVeloce China Limited Edition (or the LP 670-4 SV CLE), and “not more than ten” will be built.

Lamborghini explains that the car “is designed and manufactured exclusively for China’s most discriminating super sports car enthusiasts.” I guess that’s Lamborghini-speak for nouveau riche with “colorful” tastes.

Rumor: Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 SV coming to Geneva in March

Rumor has it that Lamborghini is planning a hardcore version of the Gallardo LP560-4 called the Gallardo LP570-4 SV (SuperVeloce). Insiders say that the model will be stripped down but will only push out 10 more horsepower than the base model. The front suspension will also see some work and carbon ceramic brakes are aslo expected. You can also look forward to seeing some aggressive body design cues.

REPORT: U.S. customs agents seize a very familiar gray-market Cizeta V16t

Whenever we’ve mentioned the Cizeta V16t supercar here on the pages of Autoblog in the past, we have always received mixed reactions. With its love-it-or-hate-it, Diablo-prototype looks and its unique transverse V16 engine, the car was a stunning achievement by former Lamborghini engineer, Claudio Zampoli. It was his vision, his engineering and his design work that made this project come to fruition. It was also his initials, C.Z., or “Ci Zeta” in Italian, that led to the vehicle’s name. While only ten of the cars were ever built, they have attained a certain cult-like following among some enthusiasts.
