In what seems to be a dramatic shift from the Hummers VicPol were seen cruising in last month, Mitsubishi Motors Australia Limited (MMAL) has announced a new assignment for the company’s ultimate performance car, a new recruit to the force.

The familiar chequered Victoria Police decals will become a familiar sight around Melbourne with the special Lancer Evolution promotional vehicle to be featured in numerous public events such as open days, charity events, educational sessions and parades, as well as regular street patrols.

It’s the news that all Evo X fans have been waiting for – Mitsubishi will be turning the wick up on the latest incarnation of its four-wheel drive super saloon with a range topping FQ400 version.

Following on from the FQ300 and FQ360, the flagship is due on sale next year and was given the green light by bosses after Mitsubishi successfully campaigned a 400bhp Evo X in the Britcar 24hr race at Silverstone recently.

Mitsubishi confirmed today that it is developing a race-going version of the new Lancer Evo X which will take place in the popular Britcar Championship. Mitsubishi is teaming up with SVA-UK with the car being driven by the company’s managing director and former BTCC, James Kaye.

ADR Motorsport will be building the car with the first public appearance scheduled for Sept 20th and 21st. The car will compete there for the first time in the Britcar 24-hour at Silverstone driven by Kaye.

Mitsubishi will hold three world premieres at the 2008 Paris Motor Show next month. The first will be a Lancer Sportback followed by the Racing Lancer and a new world premiere that Mitsubishi says can only be discussed on Oct 2nd (it’s press conference date).
