Europe will get an Opel E-Flex car before the Chevy Volt

Opel E-Flex
The General wants Opel/Vauxhall to be seen as a technologically advanced brand in Europe. For that reason, GM will launch an Opel/Vauxhall version of the new 2011 Chevrolet Volt plug-in hybrid in 2011 in European markets. That model will be followed by the Chevrolet variant six months later.

As of 2009 Opel will introduce a new “Opel Eye” technology which will read signs warning drivers of the speed limit as well as track their driving line and warn if the car is veering out of their lane.

Opel to build two new electric vehicles in Germany
Last week, GM’s European chief Carl Peter Forster confirmed that €9 billion ($14 billion) would be invested in Opel between now and 2012 for the development of a score of new models and powertrains. In fact, Opel will be launching up to 20 new models over the next five years and according to GM CEO Rick Wagoner a number of these will be electric vehicles based on the carmaker’s new E-Flex architecture.
