In its 10th year, the Top Gear Awards run across 24 international editions and recognise the most exciting and innovative cars launched in the last 12 months.

Škoda Auto has started producing a brand new engine in its Mladá Boleslav plant. The new unit is going to be fitted to Škoda, Audi, Volkswagen and Seat vehicles.

The all-new product is a 1.2-litre supercharged four-cylinder (77 kW) engine with direct fuel injection. The identification of vehicles to be fitted with this engine is going to include the abbreviation “TSI”. One of the key targets in the product development process was to reduce CO2 emissions and fuel consumption.

The search may be nearly over, but the adventure is only just beginning. Prices for Skoda’s newest – and fifth – model line, the Skoda Yeti, will start at just £13,750.

With great prices and Skoda’s legendary high levels of specification, the Skoda Yeti will provide the best value in its class when it breaks cover on 17th September 2009. Combining the strengths of a traditional 4×4 with the practicality and low running costs of a hatchback, the Skoda Yeti is a true crossover.

The Skoda Yeti will be available in four trim levels, with a choice of five engines and either two- or four-wheel drive. DSG transmission will be available with the 1.2 TSI 105bhp petrol engine.
