Skoda: Failed Cambelt Can Be Costly

Skoda is warning all car owners of the importance of getting their cambelt changed at regular intervals, with many people unaware of how much damage a failure can cause and cost.

With damages escalating to as much as £5000, a replaced cambelt is a small investment to ensure a car’s smooth running. A cambelt is responsible for keeping the moving parts of the car’s engine synchronised, and when it fails the resulting repair can be costly, sometimes requiring an entirely new engine.

Laurin a Klement Merged with Škoda 85 Years Ago. Years Later, the Two Companies Were Separated by Nationalisation

Škoda Auto is celebrating 85 years since its merger with Škoda Plzeň through which it acquired its today’s name, as well as its winged-arrow logo. This strategic partnership lasted until 1945 when the government nationalised major industrial companies and decided that the liaison between the Mladá Boleslav-based car manufacturer and the machinery works in Pilsen was no longer necessary. In 1991, Škoda merged with another strategic partner, the German based Volkswagen Group. The Czech Republic’s biggest car manufacturer, Škoda Auto, is now a global player present in over 100 markets worldwide.

Skoda Maintains Growth

Skoda Auto, the Czech Republic’s largest car manufacturer, continued to register impressive growth in worldwide sales during April. The number of vehicles delivered to customers in the first four months of 2010 grew to 242,078 – an 18.6% increase on the same period last year. In April alone, the company sold 63,177 vehicles, up 3.5% from April 2009.

The driving force behind the increase in sales is the growthof the Chinese market, where deliveries in April accounted for 12,108 vehicles, up 31.4% from April 2009. Škoda sales in overseas regions grew by an impressive 65.6%, including Eastern Europe which despite the continuing difficult economic climate experienced a sales increase of 7.7%. In Western Europe (exclusive of Germany), Škoda´s results were 38% better when compared with last year.

Skoda to Bring Special Fabia RS+ and Octavia RS+ at Wörthersee Meeting

The VW Group will be going full force at next week’s GTI tuning event at the Austrian lake Wörthersee. Aside from the two special VW Golf GTIs and seven Audi A1s, the German group will also showcase conceptual versions of the new Fabia RS and the Octavia RS.

Inspired by the S2000 rally model, the Fabia RS+ design study will be wrapped in a two-tone vinyl with matching green alloy wheels. The hot hatch will also feature an aero kit that includes a new bonnet with air vents, front spoiler, side skirts and a rear diffuser, as well as an updated interior boasting bucket seats and a sportier trim.

Happy Drivers Vote Skoda Best Manufacturer in Auto Express Driver Power Survey for Second Year Running

Skoda’s increasing number of happy drivers has voted the brand Best Manufacturer in the Auto Express Driver Power Survey – for the second year running.

Furthermore, the Škoda Octavia won the hotly-contested Best Family Car category.

Over 23,000 drivers completed the Driver Power poll, scoring all manufacturers on car reliability, build quality, running costs and overall satisfaction. In the independent nationwide survey, Škoda was rated the best, beating Lexus and Jaguar into second and third positions. This comes as no surprise, as Škoda has been ranked within the top two manufacturers for the past six years, demonstrating the brand’s long-standing commitment to quality and customer service.
