In what will be the first major overhaul of Subaru’s trademark boxer engine in 20 years, the automaker plans to introduce a next-generation, horizontally opposed engine by the end of the year. The model will first debut in the Forester crossover and then make its way into other Subaru models, according to a report by Japan’s Nikkei Sangyo business daily.

As we’re sure you know by know, Toyota and Subaru are working on a new sports car that each will get a chance to work into their own unique version. The Toyota version has been talked about frequently and will be called the FT-86. As for Subaru’s version, little has been revealed. Of course, that doesn’t mean we can’t get awesome renderings of the new sportscar.

Although Subaru has enjoyed healthy and record sales over the last year, the small-yet-emerging automaker continues to be plagued by recalls.
On March 22nd, Subaru announced the recall of the 2010 Tribeca concerning a faulty door latch which could result in the front door opening without warning. Following that recall, the 2010 Outback and Legacy models were recalled concerning a coolant hose leak involving the CVT transmission in May.

Following two previous recalls on unrelated issues in May and June, Subaru has announced a third recall on its new Legacy sedan and Outback vehicles. July’s [...] recall affects a total of 809 of its 2010-2011MY Legacy and Outback models manufactured from April 28 through June 23, 2010, because an oil lubrication hole was not drilled on the 6-speed manual transmission.
The automaker told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that hole was omitted “due to a programming error”.

STI, Subaru in-house tuner, has released its upgrade kit for the Japanese market 2010 Subaru Legacy 2.5GT sedan and the Touring Wagon models.
The 2010 Subaru Legacy B4 2.5GT tS (tS refers to Tuned by STI) comes with appearance and performance upgrade but no modifications were carried out on the 2.5-liter boxer engine.
At the exterior, the Legacy B4 2.5GT tS features front lip spoiler, boot lid spoiler for the sedan and a roof spoiler for the Touring Wagon.
