Around ten months after the Tata Nano’s launch, Tata has booked 206,703 sales and has delivered some 17,000 units. According to some research done by Christian Science Motor, some 70 percent of bookings came from nonmetro areas.

Could the Tata Nano come to the U.S. through Fiat/Chrysler partnership

So it’s no secret that Tata Motors wants to sell its $1,983 Tata Nano in the United States. CEO Ratan Tata told us that the Nano has to meet “rear-crash tests” in the U.S. for which ”redesigning is necessary, and will take 3 years.” It was even reported last week that the U.S. could get the Nano by 2011.

So how will the Nano come to the U.S. when Tata Motors has no presence in the U.S. whatsoever? According the New York Times, the new Fiat/Chrysler alliance could be the answer for Ratan Tata and his goal to sell the Nano in the United States.

Tata Nano’s flying out the door

More than 203,000 orders have been received for the Tato Nana in India. More than double the number of cars that will be made in the initial production run have been pre-ordered.

Now the recipients of the ultra-cheap 100,000 Nanos will be decided by a lottery. The value of the orders is 25 billion rupees (approx. NZ$873,264,202).

Tata prepares for European comeback in 2010

Tata is preparing for a full-scale European launch – including the UK – in 2010, with both the tiny Nano city car and a fully-revised Indica B-segment hatchback – including an electric version.

But the launch will not use the Rover brand – which Tata acquired through its purchase of Jaguar and Land-Rover. Instead, the Tata brand will be used worldwide for small cars.

Tata chairman Ratan Tata was at the show to unveil a revised ‘Europa’ version of the tiny Nano, which will go on sale in India, priced around $2,000, in April. It’s just 3.29 metres long and 1.58 metres wide, but the Tata Nano Europa has a slightly longer wheelbase of 2.28 metres.
