VW Motorsport Reveals its Latest, Greatest Touareg Sand Stormer

For those who own a Volkswagen Touareg and don’t follow motorsports, shame on you. What you’re driving is related to a Dakar Rally winner. In fact, if you haven’t seen the racing variant of Volkswagen’s bruiser hopping dunes, go download some Dakar Rally torrents from the past, oh, six years. That’s how long an iteration of the Touareg has been competing, and it’s been consistently good.

Now, the Race Touareg 3 is upon us, and my money’s on a top-three finish in 2011. Under the new and wind-tunnel approved carbon fiber and Kevlar body is a steel spaceframe, the necessarily tough suspension hardware, and a 300-horse / 442 lb-ft twin-turbo 2.5 TDI mill that VW has reworked to handle the current rally’s significant shifts in altitude. Power hits the dirt through a 5-speed sequential gearbox and three limited-slip diffs.

VW Transporter gets the Low / High Rider Treatment

German tuning firm MR Car Design has released some new goodies for the European market [pre-facelift] VW Transporter. Available mods include an electronically adjustable air suspension kit that allows the driver to raise the van’s ride height by as much as 90mm or lower it by 70mm over the standard model. For safety reasons, the ground clearance is automatically adjusted above certain speeds. The suspension kit is priced at €2,500 or about US$3,170.

Redesigned, reengineered Volkswagen Phaeton coming to U.S. very soon

The Volkswagen Phaeton will be coming back to the United States, according to a report by Bloomberg. Originally, when the Phaeton was introduced to the stateside a decade ago, critics said the luxury car would never sell from a company that made cars like the Beetle. While they were right at the time, Volkswagen is keen on taking a second shot.

Volkswagen Does The Double At Auto Express New Car Awards 2010

The Volkswagen Golf has again been recognised as the best in its class with a pair of wins in hotly contested categories at the annual Auto Express New Car Awards.

Judged by the editorial team at Auto Express, the awards recognise the best cars on sale today. Both new and existing models are eligible with the best vehicles in every class being selected for an award.

For the second year in a row, the Golf has been awarded the title of ‘Best Compact Family Car’ by the judges.
