Maserati Quattroporte GT S to go on sale in the spring

Maserati’s latest speed demon, the Quattroporte Sport GT S will go on sale this spring, the company said at the car’s debut on Monday at the Detroit auto show.

The Sport GT S gets a 4.7-liter V8 that pumps out 433 hp–an increase from 425 hp in the Quattroporte S. The gearshift has also been calibrated for an even sportier ride.

Detroit 2009: Revenge Designs builds you a supercar for $145K

Up until now, Indiana-based Revenge Designs focused on body kits for the Honda Ridgeline, Pontiac Solstice and the Pontiac GTO, but here in Detroit, the company unveiled its first complete vehicle: the Revenge GTM-R.

If the car looks familiar that’s because you’ve seen something similar badged as the Factory Five Racing (FFR) GTM. Since Factory Five offers the car in kit form only, Revenge seems to have spotted a niche and exploited it by offering a fully built turnkey example and has teamed with FFR to develop bespoke components for their version of the fully-built supercar.

Open-topped Volkswagen in Detroit

Volkswagen has revealed an all-new mid-engined, rear-wheel drive roadster at the 2009 Detroit Motor Show.

Named Concept BlueSport, the two-seat roadster combines an efficient, mid-mounted common rail diesel engine with a lightweight chassis structure.

volkswagen120109The Concept BlueSport is fitted with a four-cylinder 2.0-litre TDI engine producing 180 PS and 258 lbs ft of torque from 1,750 rpm.

Power is transferred to the rear wheels through a six-speed dual clutch DSG gearbox, allowing the car to hit 62 mph from standstill in 6.6 seconds and go on to a top speed of 140 mph.

Despite its sporting focus the adoption of lightweight materials, the Concept emits just 113 g/km of CO2, while returning 65 mpg on the combined cycle.

Detroit NAIAS 2009: Fisker Karma S Concept Revealed

Besides showing us the 2010 Fisker Karma Hybrid Sedan, Fisker Automotive unveiled the new Fisker Karma S Concept today at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show.

Unlike the Fisker Karma, the Fisker Karma S loses two-doors so we’re guessing that Fisker may even offer a coupe Karma sometime in the future.

Detroit 2009: A Brilliant Show from Brilliance Auto?

While some Chinese automakers used the Detroit show to announce their intent on entering the U.S. market, Brilliance Auto – a newcomer to the North American International Auto Show – didn’t. Rather, Brilliance vice president He Guohua said the show was “an excellent platform to measure our success by international standards.”

To do so, the Shenyeng-based firm brought four models to Detroit: the M1, M2, M3, and FRV hatchback. Notably absent was the Jinbei minivan, a Toyota-derived minivan that’s said to be quite popular in China since its introduction in 1992.
